and still in times like these i am tempted to entertain past lies. the same words spoken to my soul. my darkest place. taking me by the hand. offering me the world. whispering in my ear. begging me for a kiss. but as i gaze into these familiar eyes, only now do i see this beast for what it is. and for what it has made me. evil. for the veil has been lifted from my sight. exposing the death i have grown to embrace, the scales i once caressed, and a stench that now makes me shudder. an angel of light, or so it seemed to me. a boy with the mind of a child saduced by false beauty. enslaved by sweet lies from a tongue so vile. these ears could never have known the pain such words bring. but years have passed, and this boy has grown stronger. a spirit once lived dormant, now awakes fully armored. holding fast to its savior and a promise of salvation. in times like these i am empowered.
