I spent all my time chasing a serpent through A cave in my mind, oh and it's poisonous bite Put me under this spell, I'm so sick feeling like I am a bottom of well I wish I didn't have to drink To put myself to sleep I mean I guess I could pull it back together Fall asleep alone and maybe feel better But thats a whole new state of mind I guess I'd have to say it was a new life And I been worried about things like death I know no man my age should be to considered with that And I been smoking to many cigarettes So I think that can burn away my regret Chased a serpent through a well (in hell) I asked him why'd you bite? He said man I didn't think you were minding The spell I've got you under it won't let you go Until you find a way back, To find yourself not alone Then that serpent was carried away, by an eagle I guess I got to see it all from all angles I really wish I had the time To define what I meant in every line But having trouble trying to sleep, I have to take another drink To lay my head back down Maybe I'll drown myself down I came accross that serpent down in a well When he struck me it put my mind in an endless swell I asked him why he bit me? He said sir you looked deserving of it. Now thats serpents gone, and I'm alone (without knowing whom) I can't even sing anything right I'll be alone til I figure it out What that serpent's bite taught me and what it was about But for now he's some birds feast sitting on its withered tongue It's dying there, Wherever it went and perched The venom struck him too, and he wasn't strong enough To know that you got to hold on when it comes to push and shove That eagle he died, I feasted on him so I could sleep tonight.
