Paroles de I Spilled My Brain

I spilled my brain upon a patch of sidewalk downtown.
Unfortunately, years of gum and stickers adhered it to the ground.
Peers and colleagues point and gawk as it melts in the hot sun.
I attempt to scoop up what salvageable bits that I can.
Self-conscious and embarrassed, someone says about what is in my hand:
“That's hideous, its structure is awkward, and it looks rather dumb.”

Oh how I wish that I never let it outside.
Caught off guard, the door was open. Now it's out of the yard.

This whole week I've been weak. I'm not sure I can cope with defeat.

Out here for months under the hot sun and constant ridicule,
When you began to speak I assumed that you'd deem me a fool.
While others preferred bizarre and unattractive, you describe this mess as unique.

You find its blemishes and bruises so very fascinating,
And I can't tell you how happy I am to merely have a break from me berating.
