Paroles de Tape Loop Blues

The hillsides were sprawled with red vibrant flames
A dictator held my head
like a pawn in his war game
I moved two squares forward only to be taken
By
the white chess pieces and all the smiles they were faking
Like the forests
they burned, I was turned into paper
Commercials and logos, scribbled on my
body. naked.
I could've been a famous poet, prolific and aloof
But I
bastardized the English language and disregarded the truth...

So my days
became a tape machine, playing the spool on a loop
I considered all the reels
with songs that I would rather choose
That's when you came like a chorus, in a
never-ending verse
With a melody so elegant that I fell in head first,
So i
took to writing sonnets, those love songs that I slaved over!
I was a mess of
harmony, all crotchets and quavers
I tried to sing to your heart, my voice So I'll escape inside myself, waiting for you to say that
you missed me
I'll quit music forever, spend all of my time with whiskey
Go
back to the tape loop, and put my life on repeat
'Cause if my heart, it means
nothing to you, well I'll try to save my soul at least
Or I won't... and I'll
just burst... into glorious flames

We awoke weary-eyed and you turned to
face me
And realised that I wasn't the man of your dreams
The man you'd left,
he wasn't so tainted
By jealousy, insecurity; he certainly wasn't
faithless
I've a friend who sings of failure, I guess that makes sense now
I
long to hear her voice, I load the tape and it takes tension
I rewind to the
leader, and press down on [LOOP] and [PLAY]
And commit a song to be the
soundtrack to my recurring days

So I'll escape inside myself, waiting for
you to say that you missed me
I'll quit music forever, spend all of my time
with whiskey
Go back to the tape loop, and put my life on repeat
'Cause if my
heart, it means nothing to you, well I'll try to save my soul at least
Or I
won't... and I'll just burst... into glorious flames
